Her talent has evolved into her new passion and business venture. She uses her new found talent to fuel her philanthropic efforts. Her medium of choice is acrylic using varying techniques. She has now branched out into making her art functional with pieces including books, bags, cushion covers and planners all of which have been featured at TEF Christmas in July exhibitions and catalogues (2020 & 2021)

These products woven by the palm materials know as bull thatch and coconut thatch. Each product is created giving a natural look or dye depending on the order of the customer. Some of the products created by First Straw are tote bags, mats, trays, bowls and laundry baskets among others.

My fondest memory of my grandmother (Mama Ruby) is her in the kitchen cooking or baking. She learnt her culinary skills from her mother and passed it down to my mother and her sister.

I took a keen interest in cooking, especially baking. I developed a passion for baking and for years would baked and gift Christmas cakes using the family recipe. Based on the positive response to my fruitcake and consistent encouragement from friends, in 2015 I started selling Christmas cake to my co-workers. This was the Birth of Mama Ruby’s.
